In this day and age, if you are a business owner, you are resilient! Congratulations!

Now, I want you to stop and think for a minute about what made you start your business. Was it a life-long dream that you had to work for yourself? Were you motivated by having the dream of freedom of time and money? Did you want to be your own boss and not have anyone else tell you what to do or when to do it? Did you have this great idea and wanted to share it with the world?

Whatever reason you started your business, are you still as excited about it?

If you aren’t and you find this year has been one of your greatest challenges, that’s okay. You’re not alone. This year has been challenging for everyone. And I want to remind you again that you are resilient. You are a survivor.

Remember to go back to your “why” you started the business and recapture and bring your dream to life again.

Think about all the ways that you may have pivoted this year to renovate, recreate, revise or restore your business. These are things to be proud of.

Your dream is worth fighting for. Your team and the people that work for you are worth fighting for.

No one ever said being an entrepreneur or business owner was going to be easy. But being easy is overrated. It’s staying in the game and fighting for what you want and love that really matters.

I salute you for hanging in there and still living out your dreams and goals.

Go back and think about the power of the motivation your goal gave you to start the business. Your goal was not only to start it — but to make it successful and profitable, to build a team, and to create value in the marketplace. Your goal gave you determination and focus that has carried you to where you are today.

Keep going. You’ve got this!!

In helping people find their best way forward, I have been asking them these questions to really get them to think and process where they are at during this time. Here are those questions for you to ponder and think about too.

What if everything that has been happening in the last six months was to teach us and make us stronger?

What if it was to make you and me focus on what’s truly important?

How do I switch from seeing these things with my own eyes to seeing it with the eyes of my customers?

All the challenges that we have gone through lately are going to make us better leaders and help create a clearer vision for our business and our team.

The questions again in a little more detail are:

  1. What if this is happening for us?
  2. What does this make possible?
  3. What if this is actually meant to strengthen us as a company and you as a person?
  4. When was the last time you identified your why? Why are you here? Why are you doing this work?
  5. When was the last time you let your “why” dictate the way forward as you did your work?

We know this — when you’ve lost your way, go back and deeply connect with your big why. Then, watch everything make sense again and get clarity.

If you’d like help in figuring out your “why” again and the best way forward, reach out to us and schedule a free consultation. At Confidence Coach we are here to offer business owners a place to connect, build their confidence and a better future.

As a leader, here are some questions you should be asking your team members on a regular (or even daily) basis to lead them in the right direction. These questions will promote a positive focus that your team needs from you during these difficult times. When you lead with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, it helps propel everyone forward in that direction too. You set the tone.

  1. What’s going right?
  2. What’s working?
  3. What can we build on?
  4. What’s possible now?
  5. What is the seed of opportunity in this difficult time?
  6. What are your wins today?
  7. What have you learned today that you can apply tomorrow?

At Confidence Coach, we focus on the positive and want to help you do the same. If you need help in leading and encouraging your team, reach out to us. I wrote an article some time ago called Start Your Meetings with Wins. This is a great example of how to lead your team. We’ve got plenty more examples where that came from. So, if you’d like some help, go ahead and schedule a free consultation now.

What are the little things that you are doing right now that in the future will lead to the big things in your life?

I really love this saying by Robert Brault: “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”

Here’s a list of little things that I’ve compiled for myself that I believe in the future will end up being the big things:

  1. Saying I love you daily.
  2. Sharing a hug.
  3. Saying please and thank you.
  4. Listening intently to the person in front of me.
  5. Learning something new today.
  6. Being thankful.
  7. Smiling.
  8. Doing meaningful work.
  9. Having a great conversation.
  10. Speaking words of encouragement.
  11. Sending handwritten notes.
  12. Living out my faith and beliefs.
  13. Singing songs that give me joy.
  14. Walking into somebody’s life when everybody else walks out.

These are just a few of the things that I believe are little today but in the long term will be the big things in my life and in my legacy.

What are some little things in your life that you feel will make a huge difference in the long run? Please let me know at scott@confidencecoach.org or schedule a call to share your thoughts.
