As we look at our businesses and what they are doing, sometimes we can fall into the trap of saying that we don’t have any choice in making a change that will take our business to the next level.

But you always have a choice.

Sometimes that choice is simply in how you respond or react to change, adversity or a particular situation.

And so, the first choice that we’re talking about today is to have a mindset to look at situations, difficulties, challenges, obstacles, barriers in your business as opportunities. The bigger, more difficult and the more challenging the situation or problem is, this can be the greatest opportunity for you to build the biggest and best future for you and your team in your business.

One of the ways we do this is to get really clear.

  • Identify.  Get out of your mind and onto a piece of paper exactly what this obstacle, barrier or challenge is.  
  • What’s in the way. Decide what are all of the things around it that are preventing you from moving past it or finding a solution to go around it.
  • List them out. List each obstacle out or situation out so that you can break them down. Ask yourself the question for each one: What is a simple, basic thought to transform that barrier or obstacle?
  • First Step. What is a simple first solution or first step that would take us past, through or over the top of that obstacle?

A lot of our coaching is “thinking about your thinking” and being aware of how you’re reacting to challenges and problems in your company, business or corporation.

We work with people on this all the time, so I’d be curious to hear from you what currently is the biggest obstacle you’re facing in your business that you feel is keeping you from the next level.

What’s in the way?

Because if we can identify and work on that — we can also get clear about solutions and next steps. We can also get clear about the team (or group) and the resources, and what we need to do in order to get past this.

Today’s all about the choice, but you have to first choose that you’re going to think about these obstacles, barriers and problems in a whole new way. That’s the challenge today — think about what’s in your way. There are five questions you want to ask before you do anything in your business, and here’s why it’s so important to you. Have you ever thought about time as a tool just like you? You have tools in your business – computers, machines, trucks, etc. — all different kinds of things that you have in your business that are tools that help you be more productive. They help you create an experience or a product for your clients.

I’ll ask you again — Have you thought about your time as a tool? If you have a tool, you know you want that tool to operate at its optimum capacity, and if time is your greatest tool, are you connecting your time and the most productivity? In other words, what’s the most productivity you can get from your time? How can you maximize the tool of time that you have in order for you to get the results that you want from your life, from your business, from your relationships?

Because time ultimately is the greatest leverage.

It is the greatest tool that we have in our life and in our business as business owners, entrepreneurs and CEOs.

Stop and pause and ask yourself, “Okay, am I thinking about time as a tool? And if it is a tool, how am I leveraging my time in order that it gets the greatest result for what I want out of my life? And how am I investing in this tool so that I can be where I want to be a year from now or three years from now in order to be at my best and have a bigger better future.”

So time is a tool.
